Join us for a one-day workshop on the art of devising theatre, inspired by the Japanese art of Zuihitsu.
About this Event

Zuihitsu roughly translates to “follow the brush”. True to its name, it’s a Japanese style of writing that uses prose, poetry, images, fragments and found writing in a flowing, creative, and non-traditional way. In this one day intensive will explore creating a living script that can pull from many mediums, and leaves room for artists to play, develop and interpret.

About the facilitator:

Originally from Minneapolis, Michael is an international artist, whose career as an actor, writer, and teacher has spanned the globe. He’s also a proud graduate of Juilliard’s Drama Division and NUI Galway’s MA in Writing. His poetry has been published in journals such as Vox Galvia, Pendemic.ie, Smashing Times, and Spellweaver, and his debut collection Where The Dead Poets Sing will be released in February, 2026 with Wayfarer Books. On the stage and on the page, he draws from classical and contemporary influences, as well as a deep love of myth and storytelling in the bardic tradition.

Belfast Playwrights CIC is a central space for emerging theatre makers in NI. We support the development of theatre makers through workshops, scratch nights, play readings, dramaturgy services and our 10 Minute Play Festival.
