This ALL-AGES event coincides with the 80-year anniversary of the Zoot Suit Riots. The aim of the event is to bring attention to our country’s history of racial tensions with the goal of changing the narrative. No rioting will happen this time. It will be a fun night of dancing with period costumes encouraged. Swing dance instruction will be provided, followed by live music performed for the dancing.
1940s attire is encouraged but not required. Come out to enjoy an evening of community building and education, and be ready to hit the dance floor!
Evening Events:
4:30 - 6pm - We will have a screening of Screening and Discussion of Zoot Suit Riots | American Experience - PBS with a discussion led by Prof Ed Munoz from the University of Utah
6pm-7pm - Basic dance instruction for those interested
7pm-10pm - Open Dancing. Step back in time to the swinging era of the 1940s with an exhilarating live performance by The Rhythm Red Devils. So put on your finest vintage attire, gather your friends, and get ready to revel in the nostalgia of a 1940s dance party brought to life by the electrifying sounds of a live big band.
