About this Event

2-day Zoning and Neighborhood Visioning Workshop:

Development can be scary, especially if you live in an area where you don’t see much of it and all of a sudden the landscape feels like it’s changing overnight. Our program intends to breakdown zoning into easily understandable parts, giving the public more visibility in how the rules for building adapt and how neighborhoods evolve over time. Attendees will be given the opportunity to join in on interactive conversations with representatives in their areas of expertise (general housing, affordable housing, transportation, safety, water/sewer, and more!

🕑: 01:00 PM - 02:30 PM
Day 1: Breaking Down Zoning and Land Use Ordinances

Info: What is zoning? Breakdown terms, explain impacts (development, dynamic changes in neighborhoods such as density or environmental impacts, addresses community issues such as affordable housing, transportation, connection)The session begins with a panel of local planners. Each will be given 20 mins to explain how their zoning and land use ordinances impact our neighborhood and properties. We will then follow with questions to educate the neighbors by breaking down terms, how each of you over lap, community impact. We will end the panel session with questions from the attendees, and then invite the neighbors to choose a table of interest to discuss topics more deeply.

Day 1: Diving Deeper: Hot Topic Tables

Info: Attendees are able to choose a table of interest to discuss topics more deeply. These tables will cover topics such as: rules for building on your property, septic/water, farmland preservation, conservation, affordable housing. We will have two rounds for the table topics allowing attendees to choose two topics to discuss with professionals leading at each table.

Day 1: Summary and Next Steps for Day 2

Info: Day One will end with summarizing what was learned and to set the ground rules and expectations for Day Two.

Day 2: Visioning your Future Neighborhood

Info: Change is going to happen, and this session is about how to have a clear vision so your voice can be heard. We will begin the day with a quick recap of Day One and the ground rules for our visioning session.The group will be split up into groups of 3-5 depending on the number of attendees. Each group will be led by a design professional to moderate their visioning session. Visioning Questions:
what will our neighborhood look like in 10years, 20yrs
what is needed? what needs to be addressed to make our neighborhood better?
what is working and what should be preserved?
dreams? (markers, magazines, scrap collaging?)
how do these ideas come together in a cohesive vision?
