Zine Making with Mossy Willows Studio
About this Event
Do you have something big to say, but not enough time to really say it? Is it a cool story you've been kicking around for years, or maybe your deep and complex feelings about the town you grew up in? Start small with a zine! Finally get those thoughts and feelings on paper and make your own alongside comic artist Leo Richmond from Mossy Willows Studio.
In this workshop, participants will receive a brief lecture on the history, purpose, and production of zines (short for "magazine"), as well as the ways they have been adapted to suit different needs. Then, for the rest of the workshop, they will be invited to create their own zine using a format adopted by the workshop's instructor, professional comic artist Leo Richmond. Utilizing accessible art supplies, participants will leave with a zine that they can trade with other zinesters and a new tool in their creative toolbox!
Workshop details:
This workshop is on the porch of 108 Ruskin.
Each workshop costs $10 per person. Materials are provided. We encourage you to sign up in advance via eventbrite, but you may also sign up at our merch tent on the day of the event. Please note, workshop spots are limited and will sell out!
Please arrive at the workshop station 5-10 minutes before start time to get set up.
About the artist:
Professional comic artist and illustrator Leo Richmond runs Mossy Willows Studio out of Syracuse NY, writing comics for young adults that carry the screams of anguish and rage from behind a blue collar, and still are more like love letters to mundane living. He takes a more painterly approach to comics, opting for colored pencils and watercolors to achieve this complex balance. The images, as well as the lettering, are kept entirely on paper up until the printing process.
