About this Event
Zeta potential is commonly used to determine the charge at the solid-water interface. In particle dispersions and emulsions, the zeta potential is assessed by the measurement of the electrophoretic mobility. With the measurement of the streaming potential, the zeta potential of macroscopic solid samples becomes accessible. Besides the surface and interfacial charge, zeta potential is an indicator for surface chemistry (surface functional groups), surface hydrophobicity, and liquid-on-solid surface adsorption processes.
This seminar is intended for anyone working with solid materials who is interested in characterizing or modifying the surface chemistry or electrostatic properties of a variety of materials including membranes, biomaterials, medical devices, semiconductors, self-assembled monolayers, thin films, geological samples, and textiles.
We will be covering the chemical and physical background of zeta potential, illustrate its versatility through selected applications, and introduce to you our state-of-the-art instrument for streaming potential measurement.
Speaker Bio:
Dr. Thomas Luxbacher is the principal scientist for surface charge and zeta potential at Anton Paar. He was product manager for SurPASS 3 and the predecessor instruments SurPASS and EKA for 15 years. He has a PhD in Technical Chemistry from Graz University of Technology (Austria) and gained a broad range of work experience in different fields before joining Anton Paar GmbH.
