4 weeks countdown till Christos Shakallis MASTER OF THE ZEIBEKIKOS DANCE, International dance teacher and performer from CYPRUS lands in Australia!
The 1st ever Zeibekiko Festival Australia 1-10 JULY 2023 launches its first event at the Panarcadian Ashbury Bowling Club - 55 King St , Ashbury on SATURDAY 1st JULY with a big show featuring Christos Shakallis and local performers.
A line up of workshops and events follows till July 10th.
The ZEIBEKIKOS DANCE has evolved into the most well known dance in Greek culture and danced and every festive occasion especially at weddings and most Greek functions. It migrated mainly around the Asia Minor Catastrophe period around 1922 when an exchange of populations occurred and displaced Greeks living in Asia Minor , were forced to flee their homes.
We will look into Zeibekiko history, rhythm, musical tradition and significance.

?2nd July SUN - Cyprus Club Dance Workshops (SYD)
?3rd July MON - ADELAIDE Workshops and Taverna Night SHOW!
?4th July TUE -@ KOUTOUKI Zeibekiko Musical Journey with Shakallis
?5th July WED REMBETIKO WORSHOP 2 hrs then it becomes a taverna night with mezethes/dinner.
?6th July THUR - Traditional Zeibekika, apatalikoi xoroi and karsilamathes workshop that will be conducted with live music from Mixali Platyrraho and band. 2 hour workshop then dinner (POLITIKI KOUIZINA).
?7th July FRI - LAIKO ZEIBEKIKO WORKSHOPS @ Marrickville PCYC
?8th July SAT - MORNING LAIKO ZEIBEKIKO WORKSHOP
?8th July SAT - EVENING , SPECTACULAR SHOW DINNER DANCE "ZEIBEKIKA FROM GREEK CINEMATOGRAPHY".
?9th July - WOMENS ONLY & MENS ONLY WORKSHOP
?10th July MELBOURNE ZEIBEKIKO WORKSHOPS AT CRETAN BROTHERHOOD BRUNSWICK EAST.
