For half a century, 4ZZZ has been the soundtrack to Brisbane’s resistance — amplifying voices of protest, solidarity and social change. As part of our 50th birthday celebrations, join us for a special panel conversation that brings together current 4ZZZ announcers and broadcasters to explore the past, present and future of protest on the airwaves.Led by host of 4ZZZ’s Paradigm Shift, Andy Paine, this discussion will trace a timeline of pivotal moments across the last 50 years — from landmark marches and censorship battles to grassroots struggles for justice — spotlighting the role 4ZZZ played in giving these movements a platform. Along the way, we’ll reflect on what we’ve learned through the station’s historical research and interviews, and share insights into how that history shapes the work our broadcasters are doing right now.
This isn’t just a look back — it’s a conversation about how protest, activism and community radio continue to evolve, and why amplifying dissenting voices remains as urgent as ever.
