Zane Johnson

Just days before entering the recording studio to capture his debut album, guitarist Zane Johnson brings his quartet to The Sanctuary Studio for an evening of thoughtful, melodic, and deeply swinging jazz.

Drawing inspiration from artists such as Paul Desmond, Jim Hall, Peter Bernstein, and Thelonious Monk, Johnson’s music balances the lyricism of the West Coast tradition with the energy and sophistication of modern straight-ahead jazz. The quartet will perform a selection of original compositions alongside carefully crafted arrangements that showcase both the individual voices of the ensemble and the conversational spirit at the heart of the jazz tradition.

Joining Johnson are some of Southern California’s finest young musicians: Tristan Cappell on alto saxophone, Marlon Martinez on bass, and Marcello Carelli on drums. Together, they bring a shared commitment to creative improvisation, musical sensitivity, and the timeless art of collective expression.

This special performance offers a rare opportunity to hear the group in an intimate setting as they prepare to document the music that will become Johnson’s first recorded release.
