Queensland Indigenous Languages Symposium
About this Event

Don’t know the Gungarri word for hello? Or maybe the Birri Gubba word for friend? Perhaps we all will by 2032. To celebrate the diversity, achievements and future directions of Queensland's Indigenous languages, State Library presents Yuuingan Dhilla Yari (Yuggera for friends, basket, talk) on Monday 21 March 2022.

This event explores the possibilities and future for Queensland’s Indigenous languages and aims to highlight the importance of Indigenous languages to social cohesion and inclusion, cultural rights, health and justice for Indigenous language speakers across the world.

This free one-day symposium invites you into a conversation with leaders from Queensland’s Indigenous languages sector and community. Come along and share stories of impact with speakers and panelists, participate in workshops with language partners and test-drive your ideas about the future of Queensland’s Indigenous languages.

Join MC Cameron Costello, Deputy Chair, Queensland Tourism Industry Council, keynote speakers, author and academic Professor Jakelin Troy, and musician and Professor of Linguistics Professor Clint Bracknell, for insightful and interactive discussions about reviving, using and making Indigenous languages thrive
