Join us as we kick off the 2025-2026 Bill and Mary Meyer Concert Series with a joyous performance by the Yumi Kurosawa Trio!
Japanese musician and composer Yumi Kurosawa performs on a modern twenty-string koto and is joined by violinist Naho Parrini and percussionist Yousif Sheronick. Their program features exhilarating new compositions from Kurosawa alongside striking reinterpretations of favorites from her oeuvre, including pieces from the trio’s album Metamorphosis, highlighting the shared affinity between these seemingly disparate instruments.
Since winning the National Japanese Koto Competition and moving to the United States, Kurosawa has performed at the Kennedy Center, Carnegie Hall, the Apollo Theater, Blue Note (New York), Suntory Hall (Tokyo), and venues across Europe. She has appeared with the Tokyo Symphony Orchestra, the Hawai’i Symphony Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Swan in the United Kingdom (where she premiered Daron Hagen’s koto concerto Genji), and the Houston Grand Opera.
Violinist, Naho Parrini, a native of Japan, has given numerous solo and chamber music recitals in the United States, Japan, Germany, France, and Bulgaria. She received her BM from North Carolina School of the Arts, and her MM and DMA from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. She is a Resident Teaching Artist and Director of a pre-college program, Music Access Project at Bloomingdale School of Music in New York City. She also serves as co-director of the Adult Chamber Music Workshop and violin faculty of Junior Session at Kinhaven Music School in Vermont.
Yousif Sheronick enjoys an active career as percussionist, composer, producer and educator. Having studied classical percussion through a Masters degree at Yale, Yousif went on to study music from Brazil, India, Africa and the Middle East which he seamlessly incorporates into his playing. Always wanting to build bridges through music, Yousif has become a major force in bringing world percussion into contemporary/classical music.
The Bill and Mary Meyer Concert Series is generously made possible by the Bill and Mary Meyer Concert Series Endowment. Suntory is the Lead Corporate Sponsor of the 2025-2026 concert series.
