Please join us at Skarstedt Chelsea for a conversation between Artist Yuan Fang and Artist James Siena as they discuss Fang's new paintings, on view in her solo exhibition Yuan Fang: Spaying on Thursday, October 16th at 4:30 PM.
About the Speakers
Yuan Fang was born in Shenzhen, China, in 1996. Growing up in a large, metropolitan city encouraged her to embrace a global and eclectic view of the world, an outlook furthered by her first visit to the United States as a young girl and her subsequent relocation to the country. The artist lives and works in New York, NY.
Fang has already received numerous accolades and has participated in multiple solo and group shows around the world. In 2024, she was chosen for the 30 under 30 list by Forbes Asia and became the youngest artist to ever receive a solo exhibition at the Long Museum with her show, Flux. Other recent gallery exhibitions include Skarstedt, London (2024); Half Gallery, New York (2023); Prince & Wooster, New York (2022); and Hive Center for Contemporary Art, Beijing, China (2021). Her work can be found in the permanent collections of the Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami; Lafayette Anticipations, Paris; the FLAG Art Foundation, New York; Grand Rapids Art Museum, Grand Rapids, Michigan; Inima de Paula Museum, Belo Horizonte, Brazil; and the Long Museum, Shanghai, China, among others.
James Siena (b. 1957 in Oceanside, CA) received his Bachelor of Fine Arts from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. For over two decades, the artist has taught at New York’s School of Visual Arts in the Masters of Fine Arts department. He is a board member of the Corporation of Yaddo, Saratoga Springs, NY; National Academy of Design, New York, NY; and the Herbert F. Johnson Museum at Cornell University, Ithaca, NY. In 2021, Siena was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship in Fine Arts by the John Simon Guggenheim Memorial Foundation, New York, NY.
His work is in numerous institutional collections including the British Museum, London, United Kingdom; Hammer Museum, Los Angeles, CA; The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York, NY; Museum of Fine Arts Boston, Boston, MA; Museum of Fine Arts Houston, Houston, TX; The Museum of Modern Art, New York, NY; National Gallery of Art, Washington, D.C.; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco, CA; and the Whitney Museum of American Art, New York, NY.
The artist lives and works in New York, NY and Otis, MA.
