Youth Welding I. Summer Intensive Aug 3-7
Students learn essential shop safety, basic metallurgy, and the safe operation of professional metalworking equipment. Throughout the week, they gain practical experience using:
Angle grinders
Oxy‑acetylene torches
Plasma cutters
Belt grinders
MIG welding equipment
Additional fabrication tools and shop technology
Each student completes multiple small welded projects while developing cutting, fitting, fabrication, and finishing skills. The consecutive‑day format allows students to build confidence quickly, reinforce techniques through daily practice, and see steady progress from day one to day five.
No prior experience is required, just curiosity, focus, and a willingness to learn!
Program Highlights
Small class sizes for maximum safety and individualized instruction
Real tools, real materials, and real fabrication techniques
Daily hands‑on welding and metalworking practice
A supportive, safety‑focused workshop environment
Students take home the projects they create
Safety Requirements
Because we work with open flames and power tools, all students must wear long pants and a cotton t-shirt, non‑flammable clothing (no nylon or polyester), and closed‑toed shoes.
🔥Additionally, each student must bring a long-sleeve denim shirt or a lightweight welding jacket.
All other safety gear will be provided.
(This program is fully reimbursable by the StepUp for Students Scholarship program. )
