Students will experiment with Henri Matisse's colorful, multi-media collage style! Ages 6-17

This workshop is part of our Youth Summer Art series! Each session is standalone and booked individually–check out our “Classes” page to learn more and register your kiddos for the other sessions!
During this Youth Summer Art session, we will open with a brief presentation about Henri Matisse; a French painter who pioneered the Fauvist art movement. We’ll discuss Matisse’s use of color and paper collage to make compositions through non-representational (or figurative) forms, before creating color gradations on paper with paint. After these pieces dry, students will cut out non-representational, abstract shapes from the color gradations, with the goal of creating collages similar to Matisse’s colorful style.
All materials will be provided. Optional materials to bring:
- Water with a spill-proof lid
- Layered clothing
