About this Event
Mental Health First Aid teaches you how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental illnesses and substance use disorders. This training gives you the skills you need to reach out and provide initial support to someone who may be developing a mental health or substance use problem and help connect them to appropriate care.
There are 2 hours of Pre-Coursework that must be completed before the Saturday, September 21, 2024 event at 3:00 PM.
Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) is designed to teach parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, law enforcement, scout and camp leaders, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens how to help an adolescent or emerging young adult (age 12-22) who may experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or who is in crisis.
The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders, and eating disorders.
This training is offered by Eve Krot, a State of Florida certified teacher who is also certified to teach the Youth Mental Health First Aid course online using Zoom. There may be another facilitator in the live Zoom session. I will need a minimum of 6 participants for the course or we can reschedule for a later date. Participants must be over 18.
