Your Students Can Wear the Carbon Cycle: A Hands-On Lesson from Penn's Woods

Look around the room you are in right now. What do you see that is made of wood? Your desk, your floor, a pencil, a chair? Every single one of those objects is storing carbon that was once floating in the atmosphere as CO₂. In this PAEE Professional Development Webinar, Thomas Allison from the DCNR Bureau of Forestry brings this big idea down to earth with one of the most memorable hands-on lessons you can do with any age group: the tree cookie necklace. Participants will explore the science of carbon sequestration through the lens of Pennsylvania's working forests, discover how to adapt this lesson for PreK through high school, and get tips for sourcing free and low-cost supplies. Can't wait to get hands-on? Grab a tree cookie and bring it along!
