About this Event

Through inspiring, real-world stories of young people who used their First Amendment freedoms to create positive change, “Your Freedom, Your Power Hour” invites kids to discover that their voices matter. Filled with storytelling, interactive activities, and creative conversation, this fun family event encourages children to read boldly, think critically, express themselves with confidence, and see how their ideas can make a difference at home, in school, and in their communities.

The program is led by award-winning author, attorney, educator, and Global Fulbright Scholar Dr. Allison "Dr. Ally" Matulli, a First Amendment Fellow at the Freedom Forum and founder of The Little Lawyers. With warmth, humor, and hands-on learning, Dr. Ally helps children discover that free expression isn't just something they learn about; it's something they can practice every day.

Interactive activities include:

• Storytime with Dr. Ally – An engaging reading from Your Freedom, Your Power featuring real kids who used their voices to create change.
• Find Your Power Conversation – Children share ideas about what matters to them and learn how speaking up respectfully can make a difference.
• Freedom Wall – Every child adds a drawing or completes the prompt: "If I could use my voice to change one thing, I would..." Together, their ideas become a colorful community mural celebrating creativity, kindness, and free expression
• Meet the Author – Kids can ask Dr. Ally questions, have books signed, and take photos to remember the day.

Dr. Allison "Dr. Ally" Matulli is the author of Your Freedom, Your Power: A Kid's Guide to the First Amendment, which brings to life the true stories of young people who changed their communities through courage and civic action. Her forthcoming Penguin RISE picture book, WE ARE FREE (September 2026), introduces children ages 0–5 to their first freedoms, inspiring curiosity, confidence, and civic awareness from the very beginning.
