Cremona House is a heart-warming exploration of the early years of Italian migration to Adelaide, featuring stories of hope & perseverance.
In this special session - viewers will be treated to an intimate talk with local independent author Laura Di Martino, about her debut book 'Cremona House'.
About Cremona House
Discover the story of enterprising Italian immigrant, Carlo Bodoni, who in 1911 leaves his home outside Cremona in Northern Italy at the tender age of 14, accompanied only by his violin. In 1917, he is drawn to Port Adelaide by the love of a beautiful woman, and the chance to open his own business - the Imperial Ice Cream Factory. Love and fidelity, hard work and determination see him overcome setbacks, so that by the 1930s, he’s the gracious host of many glittering parties in the sumptuous ballroom of his mansion which he named “Cremona House”. However, at the height of his success, his livelihood is threatened by a world economic downturn and the escalating military tensions in Europe while suffering an enormous personal loss.
About the Author, Laura Di Martino
Born in Belgium, of Italian parents, Laura migrated to Adelaide as a child. She pursued post-secondary studies in Italian, French, English and History, which she would go on to teach at various schools around Adelaide for forty years. 'Cremona House' is her debut book.
