In 2009, Young Homotopia travelled to Auschwitz and Warsaw for a five day cultural exchange with LGBTQIA+ activists from the Campaign Against Homophobia (KPH) in Poland.

Known as Project Triangle, the exchange explored the persecution of LGBTQ+ people during the Holocaust and its lasting impact on queer history, while challenging participants to examine prejudice, discrimination and hate crimes closer to home.

The group documented their journey for a powerful short film, which was later developed into an educational resource endorsed by the National Union of Teachers, Sir Ian McKellen and the Chief Constable of Merseyside Police. The following year, the group created a second film, Sex Drags and Rock 'n' Roll, a celebration of the group’s efforts to raise awareness of homotopia and promote equality, which was selected for the 2010 BFI London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival.

Seventeen years on, the Re-Dock archive project Playback brings the original group back together to revisit the films they made and the people they've become. The evening will also feature the premiere of a brand-new animated film created by the current Young Homotopia cohort with artist Collette Whittington of Re-Dock, inspired by the themes of the original project. The evening will also include spoken word performance created by current members of Young Homotopia using themes from Project Triangle as inspiration.

Through screenings, performance and live discussion, two generations of Young Homotopia will reflect on their journeys, the impact Project Triangle and Young Homotopia had on their lives, what has changed - and what still needs to change - for young queer people today.

This event is part of the Re-Dock project PLAYBACK, archiving Homotopia's video archive from the last 19 years. The project is supported by Archives Revealed, Archives Revealed is funded by a The National Lottery Heritage Fund, the Wolfson Foundation, the Pilgrim Trust and The National Archives
