Young Masqueraders Summer School 2024

Dates: Monday, 12th August - Thursday, 15th August, 2024
Location: Leeds Caribbean & African Centre (formerly Leeds West Indian Centre)

Our summer school offers a vibrant program for young masqueraders eager to explore their artistic talents and immerse themselves in traditional masquerade culture. Here's what we have in store for you:

• Costume-Making Workshops: Get hands-on experience in creating stunning carnival costumes with guidance from Unity Carnival Arts.
• Dance Classes: Move to the rhythm and learn traditional and contemporary dance styles with the talented Pareesha Valentina.
• Music Sessions: Enjoy lively music sessions with renowned musician Leroy Johnson, and maybe even pick up a few musical skills yourself.
• Cultural Education: Dive into the rich history of carnival and the Caribbean, enhancing your appreciation and understanding of this vibrant culture.

This is a fantastic opportunity to connect with other young masqueraders, showcase your talents, and have loads of fun. Whether you're a budding artist, a dancer, or simply enthusiastic about carnival culture, there's something for everyone at the Young Masqueraders Summer School.

Note: Please bring comfortable clothing suitable for dance and creative activities and a packed lunch. Snacks and refreshments will be provided daily.

The children will also have an opportunity to showcase their work at a Carnival Fundraising event on Saturday 17th August 24 (more details will follow at the summer school).
