Wise Fool Theater is starting a Young Company! This program for current high school students will be divided into an Acting Track and a Technical Theater Track. (More on the Tech Track soon!) Actors should prepare and memorize one monologue by Shakespeare - no more than 2 minutes. Shorter is fine! Whatever shows off your skills and personality. We do not expect perfection. We do expect a great attitude and a willingness to learn. NOTE - if a Shakespeare monologue is too scary, we encourage you to TRY a short Shakespeare monologue, but you are welcome to add a contemporary monologue that you feel great about so we can get the best possible sense of you as an actor.
It is VERY IMPORTANT TO US that we don't interfere too much with the local high school shows! Our learning schedule will be very flexible and customized to our students. Expect several workshops per month where we learn about voice and speech, Shakespeare's text, fight choreography, specialty hair and make-up, and more! We'll cover everything you need for a great acting foundation. Usually Saturday or Sunday afternoons, but we can switch to evenings if it works better for the students, and we’ll take it easy around holidays and testing weeks!
In January and February we will intensify our schedule to prepare for the Young Company’s inaugural production - William Shakespeare's "Macbeth", performing two weekends: February 27 - March 9. (We are happy to work around school one act competition schedules as best we can!)
We'll take a short breather after Macbeth, then we'll pick it up again with monologue work in preparation for late May’s Shakespeare Showcase - a performance for friends and family to show off everything we’ve learned over the year.
Enrollment in the Performance Track or Technical Track will normally cost $400 for a full season of instruction, but we are DISCOUNTING THE FIRST YEAR to $250 to say thank you for your patience while we work out some kinks in the system! SCHOLARSHIPS ARE AVAILABLE! Wise Fool Theater does not turn anyone away because they can’t pay. Just come audition and we’ll work it out!
