A community event to celebrate the launch of 826 Valencia's Young Authors' Book Project
About this Event

This public event is outdoors at Yerba Buena Gardens Stage (by the MLK Memorial waterfall) and is being co-presented by 826 Valencia and The Museum of the African Diaspora. You can find a map of Yerba Buena Gardens and visitor information here.

Every year, 826 Valencia works with public school students in San Francisco on the Young Authors' Book Project. This year, with support from teachers and volunteer tutors, students at schools and in 826 Valencia's Black Literary Achievement Club—part of the Black Students Initiative—wrote pieces on Black identity and the Black experience in America.

This event marks the release of their compendium, Our History Is Deeper Than What They Tell Us. Students will receive copies of the book and celebrate being published authors with their families and the 826 Valencia community.

Copies of Our History Is Deeper Than What They Tell Us will be available for purchase, but you can also buy the book from our store here. All proceeds from sales will go right back into 826 Valencia's free writing programs for youth.
