A talk and tasting about the beauty and importance of biodiversity
You love chocolate. It’s your favorite treat, your favorite gift, and you’ve been known on occasion to dream about it. But how well do you actually know chocolate? The key ingredient, cacao, is native to the Americas. But most all of the chocolate you eat is made from cacao from Africa, and is a single variety: Forastero. And you’re not wrong for loving it — it tastes great! But, by largely only consuming one variety of cacao from one region, we’re putting the biodiversity of the planet at risk, and in so doing, putting our food sources — and medicinal sources — at risk. That’s the bad news.
The good news: That we can get back on the right trajectory by eating a broader, more delicious range of chocolates! And that’s just what we’ll do! Join us Tuesday, December 5, 2023, for A More Delicious World: - Tasting of biodiverse chocolates , coffees , and agave spirits - Presentation by Dan Saladino , author of Eating to Extinction and BBC Radio 4 journalist - Opportunity to purchase chocolates and coffees for holiday gifts that taste delicious and can preserve biodiversity Admission is free with your copy of Dan Saladino’s Eating to Extinction . If you already have a copy, bring it. If you don’t yet have a copy, purchase at your favorite bookstore and bring it. Or purchase a ticket on this page and you'll receive a copy of the book when you arrive.
