Discover the joy of growing your own saffron during "You Can Grow It! Saffron" on Tuesday, September 23, 5:00-7:00pm, outdoors at the Trial and Idea Garden located at the Claremont Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at 1000 Claremont Road, Carlisle, PA 17013. The Trial and Idea Garden is located near the intersection of Claremont Road and Army Heritage Drive. Parking is available in the lot on Army Heritage Drive across from the gardens.Enjoy guided tours of the garden followed by the one-hour featured presentation "You Can Grow It! Saffron" by Marisol Barrios, Penn State Master Gardener of Cumberland County. Learn how to cultivate saffron—the world's most expensive spice, often called "red gold"—as Marisol shares its history, culinary uses, life cycle, propagation, and harvesting.
Preregistration is highly recommended. Register for $10 by September 22 online at https://extension.psu.edu/you-can-grow-it-saffron or call Penn State Extension Registration Services toll-free at 1-877-345-0691 to secure your spot and receive one set of ten saffron crocus bulbs per household while supplies last. Walk-in registration is welcome, though bulbs are not guaranteed.
