AdéDáre Olúfèrè's solo exhibition calls attention to the beauty and strength of Yoruba and Ifa culture through five women in the heart of New York City.

The Yoruba Girl in New York visual series is accompanied by original music written and produced by AdéDáre Olúfèrè. AdéDáre cheers on Yoruba Girls through their journeys in the West with his saxophone and Akinwumi Ogunsumi’s guitar strings.

Join our intimate reflection sessions led by curator Kanaiza in conversation with Yoruba Playwright Bunmi of Diaspora Reflections and Young Africa Centre. Where we commune to process, unpack and share our interpretations and feelings on Ade Dare's art and influences. We explore the origins and misconceptions of Ifa, and reflect on our western diaspora relationships with Ifa. Born and raised in the ancient city of Ibadan, Nigeria, West of Africa, Dáre Olúfèrè, as he is popularly known, is an African enthusiast. He is a graduate of Music from Nigeria's premier university; University of Ibadan. His works of art, both in painting and Music, revolve around Africa and her heritage dying by the day. He ventures into the deep, sacred, and rich culture of his people, The Yoruba’s, thereby erupting values at the culture's bed to reflect contemporary societal conditions.

He is influenced by the written works of academics such as Professors Sophie Oluwole and Wande Abimbola; by theater practitioners such as Duro Ladipo and Hubert Ogunde; by Ifa exponents such as Ifalere Odegbola and by the artistic practice of sculptors and painters such as Lamidi Fakeye, Susanne Wenger, Wole Lagunju, Tope Fatumbi and Taiwo Fadare.

AdéDáre discovered for himself a functional and yet aesthetic style. He uses shades of indigo as a result of its historical importance to the black race. He centralizes his message using Ifa, the Yoruba ancient form of divination and philosophy, coupled with some other African motifs to buttress his point.

Raised in East Africa, Nairobi and now an East London native. Curator Kanaiza draws heavily from her experiences as a member of two very different worlds and societies with their own set of rules and subcultures.

Giving her the unique ability to see the world through an alternative lens; something akin to speaking a third language that is understood between local and international diaspora communities.

Kanaiza is known to those she works closely with for her soft power. She is soft-spoken yet holds the attention of a room and is respected for her creative and cultural direction when developing projects.

Kanaiza strives to carve a new path for creative visionaries, muses and artists around the world, challenging mainstream representation of overlooked narratives and communities through authentic storytelling.

Using the Traditional Method we have been able to take an eternal classic, add a vibrant fizz, sweet scent and a crisp fine finish. Palm Wine is an Obsession. We have sustainably sourced our Palm from the Southern Nigerian forests. These trees have been harvested by local Palm Wine Tappers for thousands of years. The sweet sap they obtain is deeply embedded into African Traditions to this day.
