An informative and fun walking tour where you'll learn the real story of how Yorkville became Canada's 1960s music mecca.
About this Event

In the 1960s, the Yorkville area of Toronto hummed with the sounds of Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Gordon Lightfoot, Ian and Sylvia and many more, who came here from all over Canada and found a healthy blend of competition, collaboration and cooperation that boosted their careers and unlocked their creativity. You can recapture this magical time on Dr. Mike Daley's Yorkville Music History Walking Tour. We'll cover around 2 kilometres (from Yonge and Yorkville to Avenue and Davenport) and you'll learn all about the Yorkville coffeehouses - where they were, what they were like, and the colourful cast of entrepreneurs who ran them. You'll learn about the roots of Yorkville, its rise as an enclave of folk and jazz venues, its transformation into a hippie mecca, and its demise as a musical scene amid police crackdowns and gentrification.

Each tour runs for two hours and is limited to 20 participants. We will be outside for the entire tour. Private tours are available; email [email protected] for details.

Rain date: Thursday, June 2 at 10 am. Please ensure that you are available for both the main date and the rain date. No refunds but the tickets are transferable to another person.
