‘Killing time: the work of a forensic psychotherapist’ Dr Gwen Adshead
Venue: York Medical society rooms, 23 Stonegate, York at 2pm
Dr Gwen Adshead is a forensic psychiatrist and psychotherapist, who has been assessing and treating violence perpetrators for over 30 years. She has worked as a consultant forensic psychiatrist in a range of secure settings; and as a psychotherapist in secure hospitals and prisons.
Gwen lectures regularly in the UK and internationally; she has been visiting Professor at Yale School of Law & psychiatry and at Gresham College; and appears regularly on public radio.
Gwen has published widely, including many peer reviewed papers and book chapters; and she is the editor or co-editor of several academic textbooks.
Her most recent book, written for a general audience was written with her friend Eileen Horne and is called ‘The Devil you know’. Gwen is currently working on another book about language and trauma. She was awarded an Honorary fellowship from the Royal College of Psychiatrists in June 2024.
The Oration will be followed by tea/coffee and cake
