Yoga With Oma

Join Instructor Heike Newman in a yoga sequence promoting mental clarity, focus, and a sense of inner peace and well-being surrounded by the art exhibit at the Arts HQ Gallery on Saturday, September 28, 9am-10am.

From a yogic perspective, practitioners are encouraged to follow ethical guidelines, including nonviolence, truthfulness, moderation, simplicity, discipline, and cleanliness. Among these principles, Swadhyaya, or self-study, involves introspection. It’s about looking within, understanding our thoughts, emotions, and patterns, and finding stillness amidst life’s noise.

In yoga practice, longer holds and stillness in poses create an opportunity for introspection and inner exploration. This encourages mindfulness, presence, and a deeper sense of self-awareness and emotional balance. So, whether it’s through meditation, savasana, or other reflective practices, yoga provides a pathway to that quiet, contemplative place within ourselves.

NEED to KNOW: Registration is required. Class starts at 9 AM. Please arrive no later than 8:45 AM to get settled in. Wear light comfortable clothes that give you a full range of motion. Bring a bottle of water, your own yoga mat, a blanket or towel, a small pillow, and blocks, belts or any props you would like to add. There will be a few yoga mats available for attendees who don’t have their own. There’s no prior experience required to take this class. Beginners and advanced yogis are welcome alike.

The Arts HQ Gallery is run by the nonprofit West Valley Arts Council , and is located at 16126 N. Civic Center Plaza, Ste 102 in Surprise, just north of the Surprise City Hall between the courthouse and Xeriscape Garden. There is parking on either side of the one-story gallery building with overflow parking at the courthouse.
