Yoga and its companion practice, Ayurveda, work together to help you create a healthy body, peaceful mind, and compassionate heart.Ayurveda is the study of human experience through the lens of Sankhya philosophy. From this point of view, the entire universe is created by the weaving together of five elements: earth, water, fire, air, and ether.
These five elements combine in predictable ways and infuse space and time with their qualities. For example, in early spring, the qualities earth and water are most abundant.
When the qualities are overabundant, they create a dosha, a lack of balance. This results in physical, mental, and emotional biases and sometimes, ill-health.
We can use postures and breathing techniques to balance the elements and maintain the best health possible within the limits of our genetic predispositions.
In this class, you will learn about the presenting elements and how they can affect your body and mind. You'll also learn and practice how to bring these elements into balance with asana and pranayama. We'll end with a short, silent meditation to connect with our true nature, to abide in peace.
