Course Description:
Explore ways to make yoga accessible, fun and effective for the aging population. In this Teaching Yoga to Seniors certification you will gain a deeper understanding of the concerns and needs that come with aging; and how you can support this student demographic. In this training you will learn how to adequately plan and offer comprehensive hatha yoga classes in order to meet the unique needs of seniors with different abilities.
This course will include, but is not limited to:
- Anatomy of aging, Lifestyle, and Ethics
- Supportive approaches for maintaining or beginning a mat practice
- Yoga postures from a chairs and variations for mixed level classes (sitting and standing).
- Options for limited mobility and other health challenges.
- Techniques to improve posture, balance, range of motion and reduce pain
- Contraindications, discernment and supportive language
- Pranayama, Relaxation Techniques and Meditation
- Mudras for well-being
- Gentle, supportive sequencing and practicum
- Teaching yoga to seniors in various settings
About Your Teacher:
Willow Marcotte is a Yoga Alliance 500 hour E-RYT with expertise in Yoga Nidra, Restorative Yoga, and alignment as taught by BKS Iyengar. Her background in nursing compliments these practices which allows for a deep understanding of anatomy and body function. As owner of Sun Yoga Tampa, she sets the creative and philosophic tone for the studio fostering a welcoming and uplifting environment for devoted yogis.
