An exploration of how a somatic approach can help us to get more out of our yoga practice.
For teachers and trainees.

How can a somatic approach to yoga help us to have a practice that is in tune with our unique individual body and mind? How can a somatic approach stimulate our creativity, health and enjoyment of moving?
Somatic work is subtle, yet powerful in that it draws our attention to how we habitually move, and then offers us choices to explore new pathways.
Recent research in fascia and neuroscience has greatly supported this approach of finding more variation and fluidity in our physical practices.
What can you expect from the workshop?
* Practical somatic exercises that give us more movement choices
* Techniques to become aware of habits and holding patterns
* Breathing practices that can be integrated into everyday life as well as yoga practice
* Knowledge about the history of somatics, its key proponents, ideas and practices
* Examples of recent myofascial and neuroscientific research that support somatic theories, and how these findings can change the way we move, exercise and practice yoga
* Practical ideas of how we can integrate somatic work into a yoga class without losing structure, clarity and flow whilst encouraging experiential approaches and playfulness
* You will receive detailed hand-outs online and links to further reading
About Susanne :��
Susanne has been teaching yoga since the early 1990’s. Her own practice started with Ashtanga, Iyengar and Scaravelli yoga. She gradually began to evolve her unique style of teaching vinyasa flow classes based on somatic principles, creative practice as well as addressing current research in anatomy and biomechanics.��
Susanne holds a Yogacampus level 2 teaching qualification accredited by the British Wheel of Yoga. She also has a BSc in Movement Studies and Sports Science, an MA in Dance, and advanced certification in Pilates, fitness, gyrotonic, and the Alexander Technique. In addition, she has attended many courses on movement improvisation, Feldenkrais, breath work and myofascial techniques. Susanne previously ran a Pilates Foundation teacher training course, and, for many years, has taught at London Contemporary Dance School, and previously at the Circus Space and Trinity Laban.
Susanne teaches vinyasa flow classes at OrangeYoga in Cheltenham, she contributes to the OrangeYoga teacher training course and also holds regular workshops at the studio.��
She also is a teacher for experiential anatomy and sequencing on the Yogacampus Teacher Training and Yoga Therapy Diploma courses.��
Her teaching philosophy is to respect individual variations, whilst encouraging personal challenges and continuous growth and learning.
