With Yiofírja, the Berlin-based Perperúna Ensemble together with an interdisciplinary artistic team invite you to an immersive polyphonic feast inspired by their 2025 field-research residency in Epirus, Northwestern Greece.
Rooted in the endangered oral tradition of greek-speaking Epirus polyphony, this interdisciplinary performance bridges field research and contemporary polyphonic practice. Live polyphonic singing intertwines with documentary fragments gathered in villages of Pogoni, Epirus.
Drawing from encounters with tradition bearers and village communities, Yiofírja explores, re-imagines and co-creates, in an interactive approach with the audience, Epirus polyphony as a living communal practice with relevance for the here and now of our metropolitan city-center of Berlin. Where joy becomes shared and sorrow grows lighter for one collective moment of resonance.

Mit Yiofírja lädt das Berliner Vokalensemble Perperúna gemeinsam mit einem interdisziplinären Künstlerteam zu einem immersiven polyphonen Fest ein, inspiriert von einem Forschungsaufenthalt 2025 in Epirus, Nordwestgriechenland.
Verwurzelt in der bedrohten mündlich überlieferten Tradition der griechischsprachigen Polyphonie von Epirus, schlägt die Performance eine Brücke zwischen Feldforschung und zeitgenössischer polyphoner Praxis. Live-Polyphonie wird dabei verwoben mit dokumentarischen Fragmenten aus den Dörfern von Pogoni in Epirus.
Ausgehend von Begegnungen mit Traditionsträgern und Dorfgemeinschaften erforscht und interpretiert das Ensemble in Interaktion mit dem Publikum die Polyphonie von Epirus und lässt sie als lebendige, gemeinschaftliche Praxis aufleben, die für das Hier und Jetzt unserer Metropole Berlin relevant ist. Freude wird geteilt und Trauer in einem gemeinsamen Moment der Resonanz leichter.
