Join fellow cinephiles for an evening of film discussion!
The subject for our very last (at least for a while!) meeting will be the documentary Room 237 (2012), a bit of a modern classic featuring five very different people explaining their theories on the secret meanings or conspiracies behind The Shining (1980). It's a fascinating look into how people take very different things from films (many of which may not have been intended), as well as how even the weirdest theories can take hold in pop culture. You don't have to have recently seen The Shining to follow Room 237, but it is recommended. The Shining does in fact have a ton of fun behind-the-scenes lore, which your librarian will come ready with!
Room 237 is available free with your library card on the Kanopy platform. The Shining is currently streaming on HBO and can be rented just about anywhere, as well as borrowed from the library.
Films will not be screened at the meetings, but we will have access to a large TV screen to review important scenes. Ages 18+.
