About this Event
The Unitarian Universalist Service Committee and Imagine Water Works invite you to a Sunday afternoon workshop on applying an intersectional lens to disaster readiness. We'll be gathering at the Imagination Farm on Sunday, December 7, at 2pm, to dig in to the conversation, educate each other, share resources, answer questions and troubleshoot together, and YES, eat snacks!
We're looking to bring together folks who are already engaged in this work, and are ready to deepen their analysis around the way that intersecting oppressions impact our experiences in preparing for disaster. Whether our entry point is volunteering with our congregations, neighborhood associations, Community Lighthouse Project, or something else, we can all get in motion to make our preparations in solidarity with each other, with a heightened awareness of our varying needs - let's teach each other how!
We're putting together a panel to speak to the experiences of folks directly impacted by racism, ableism, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, and other oppressions. Each attendee will receive a resource packet to include copies of The Queer/Trans Guide to Storms, The Pink Slipper: Protecting Each Other Through Hurricanes & Other Calamities, The New Orleans Community Resource Guide for Resistance & Renewal, and more. We'll lift up the work already in progress and create an action plan to prepare for next year's hurricane season in a way that leaves none of our siblings behind.
We will share more detailed program info as it emerges.
