• RE(NEW)AL by Viet Cuong is a concerto for solo percussion quartet based on the theme of renewable energy. It is constructed of three continuous movements inspired by the power of hydro, wind, and solar energies, which are represented by the hissing of compressed air, crystal glasses tuned with water, “communal” drumming, and other percussion “peculiarities.” Feat. Yale School of Music percussionists Jessie Chiang MM '24, Sijia Huang MMA '23 Makana Medeiros MM '23, and Mingyu Son MM '24.
Guest Conductor - Wayne Magee, Director of Bands, Massachusetts Maritime Academy:
• ON A HYMNSONG OF PHILIP BLISS (David Holsinger). A contemplative setting of the hymn “It Is Well with My Soul.”
• EARLY LIGHT (Carolyn Bremer). Based on “The Star-Spangled Banner,” which gives the piece its title as well as much of its musical content, this piece is also tribute to baseball, our country’s national pastime.
• MARIACHITLÁN (Juan Pablo Contreras) - an homage to the Mexican state of Jalisco – the birthplace of the composer and of mariachi music.
Other music:
ADAGIO FOR WIND ORCHESTRA (Joaquín Rodrigo)
PERSEIDS (Alexandra Gardner)
*Open to asymptomatic patrons with an up-to-date vaccination status. “Up-to-date” means a person has received all recommended COVID-19 vaccines for their age range, including any booster dose(s) when eligible.
