Hello everyone!
I would like to draw your attention to an event taking place next year, connected to a very important date for all Queen fans worldwide.
Next year marks what would have been Freddie Mercury’s 80th birthday, an anniversary that will be commemorated around the globe.
Here in Hungary, we will also honor this milestone through an event organized by our association, the Queen Baráti Kör Association, of which I am the founder and leader. Our group has been active for more than 13 years and today has nearly 6,000 members.
Over the years, we have organized numerous Queen-related events, but we are especially proud of our annual Queen Camp, held every summer in Balatonszemes, one of the most popular holiday destinations on Lake Balaton. Many Queen fans gather here, creating a true festival atmosphere, with free Queen tribute band concerts and fun, cheerful programs.
Next year, during our camp taking place from July 21 to July 26, we would like to celebrate Freddie’s 80th birthday in a truly special way: by unveiling a Freddie Mercury bust. This monument will be unique in Hungary, as no memorial dedicated to Freddie has ever been created here before.
The unveiling also commemorates another important anniversary: the legendary Queen concert held on July 27, 1986, at the Népstadion in Budapest, which marked a major breakthrough for Western rock music in then-communist Hungary.
The bust is being created by András Sándor Kocsis, an internationally known and respected Hungarian artist who has produced numerous busts, sculptures, and paintings of both Hungarian and world-famous figures. His works can be found not only in Hungary but in many parts of the world.
The unveiling ceremony is planned for July 25, 2026, at 7:00 PM, and we warmly welcome Queen fans from all over the world to join us. The organizers will ensure a great atmosphere and an unforgettable experience, enhanced by the breathtaking scenery of Lake Balaton.
