Join us on Tuesday, 13 April 2027 at 7:00 pm in the Unitarian Universalist Church in Eugene, 1685 W 13th Ave, Eugene OR 97402, to listen to Fred Weisensee and Leonard Folts, owners of Dancing Oaks Nursery. They will be presenting "Greek Plants That Will Stop You In Your Tracks".
Program:
"Greek Plants That Will Stop You In Your Tracks"
Greece is a juggernaut of European diversity with about 6,000 plant species, with several endemic species. We will share the highlights of our botanical odyssey on Crete, and environments around Athens and the Peloponnese during our trip in mid-April 2026.
Our warming climate translates to several Grecian plants that are adapted to summer drought and winter rains that are likely to be successful candidates for Western Oregon gardens.
Speaker Bios:
Bio for Fred Weisensee
Fred Weisensee is a native of the Pacific Northwest and lives with his partner Leonard on the family timberland where he was raised near Pedee, Oregon. Fred and Leonard established Dancing Oaks Nursery and Gardens in 1996 out of a passion for plants and creating gardens.
In his spare time Fred practices Outpatient Internal Medicine in Corvallis four days a week and mentors
Internal Medicine Students in the Art and Science of Medicine and, sometimes, a little horticulture on the side.
Bio for Leonard Foltz
Leonard Foltz was raised on a Century Farm in the foothills of the Cascades west of Scio, Oregon. He cannot remember a time of not being into plants with parents and grandparents also fostering a love of collecting plants to preserve memories. He worked at a grafted ornamental wholesale nursery in Canby, Oregon for ten years before moving to the present location of Dancing Oak to start the nursery. Some of the most satisfying and educational moments of his horticultural journey has been the privilege of seeing favorite and fabled plants growing in their native haunts.
Program Location:
The in-person meetings and speaker programs take place at the Unitarian Universalist Church in Eugene at 1685 W 13th Ave, Eugene OR 97402.
Entrance is on the east side of the building and there is ample parking in the parking lots, which can be accessed from both Chambers St or W 13th Ave, with additional parking in the adjacent Looking Glass Center parking lot. Please do not park under their covered entry way. Overflow parking is also available in the first 20 spaces on the east and south side of Redeemer Fellowship Church just across Chambers St to the west. Meetings begin at 7:00 PM, but the doors open at 6:30 PM for botanical sample browsing, refreshments, and socializing. We meet the second Tuesday of the month, September through November, and January through May. The public is invited to attend our meetings. Admission is free for members and $5 for non-members.
