Wu Fei's solo guzheng/vocal suite “Moon Hunter” draws on the singing form of ancient Chinese poetry. Fei’s original work and improvisations will be weaved together with traditional guzheng repertoire, classic folk songs, and Chinese opera, taking inspiration and influence from the old to create the new. All the pieces will be accompanied by brief educational descriptions by Wu Fei, that encompass the history of the guzheng beginning more than 2,500 years ago, the regional linguistic character of different singing styles of the Chinese operas, and Fei's own explorative improvisations and experiences of cross-cultural collaborations around the globe.
Guest musicians include Nashville based Asian American musicians and performers from Blair School of Music.
Sunday, February 15, 2026 | Ingram Hall
• The Ingram Hall lobby will open at 2:00 p.m. for a Lunar New Year celebration with cultural exhibits and activity booths, including Chinese Drumming by the Chinese Arts Alliance of Nashville.
• The performance will begin at 3:00 p.m. We invite all guests to arrive at 2:00 p.m. for the complete event experience.
Free to Attend / Tickets Required to reserve seats.
This concert is part of the Music Unbound Artist Residency at the Blair School of Music and is generously supported by the Tennessee Arts Commission, the Curb Center, and the Peter & Lois Fyfe Fund.

About Wu Fei:
Celebrated composer, singer, and musician Wu Fei has performed around the world at venues including the Forbidden City, Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts New York, John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts D.C., Paris’ Quai Branly Museum, the North Sea Jazz Festival, Vossa Jazz, the Europalia Festival, and the Big Ears Festival in Tennessee.
She plays in the guzheng’s vernacular — a musical language at least 2,500 years old – mixing Western classical and Chinese traditions with a contemporary, idiosyncratic sound. Fei composes for choir, string quartet, chamber ensemble, Balinese gamelan and orchestra. Her chamber orchestral work “Hello Gold Mountain,” inspired by the stories of Jewish refugees who fled to Shanghai from Europe in World War II, earned a MAP Fund award.
Fei has collaborated with artists from different disciplines and genres, including the Philadelphia Orchestra, Toronto Symphony Orchestra; Grammy-winning musicians Béla Fleck, Abigail Washburn, and Jeff Coffin; oud master Shanir Blumenkranz; composers John Zorn and Fred Frith; and Emmy-winning director Pierce Freelon. She has released two solo recordings and two collaborative albums — with classical guitarist Gyan Riley, and with singer-songwriter Abigail Washburn.
Wu Fei studied composition at the China Conservatory of Music and Mills College. A native of Beijing, she currently lives in Nashville.
