WSW Wednesday Meet Up

After an amazing summer party in August, we're back to lunches for our 8th meet up. With a few left in the calendar year, I'm excited to be hosted by the wonderful Jenny Nguyen of The Sports Bra, which opened in April 2022. Their mission is to make great food, delicious drinks, and provide a space that supports, empowers, and promotes girls and women in sports and in the community. This, first of its kind, establishment has been covered in just about every media outlet in the world, including Sports Illustrated.

In celebration of Latinx/Hispanic Heritage month, we are also featuring creator and owner Rebecca Smith of Ice Queen. She began selling her plant-based paletas in 2018, opened a storefront in July 2020, and they are currently building out their flagship retail location. We are honored to have her join us this month.

On September 28th, we'll all be treated to Jenny and Rebecca sharing their stories along with a set menu that will be served family style (vegan option included) + Ice Queen Plant-Based Paletas + a no host bar. Jenny has offered to close the sports bar for this private event. You don't want to miss this one. Come get fed and inspired!

Through the generous donations from the community, we've crowdfunded enough money from our Treat a Boss GoFundMe campaign to host up to 50 bosses. We are still actively seeking sponsorship as well. If you know someone who can support, please connect them to us.

BACKGROUND

PDX Indie Restaurants and Women Founders can benefit from a little community support. So we came up with an idea to combine the two under the collective power of Women Supporting Women (WSW). Gathering on the last Wednesday of every month, we hope to bring business to a woman-owned restaurant and be in community with other founders on our lunch hour. This invitation is for *business owners only. Thank you for your understanding.

*The intent of these meetups are to connect true business owners together so they can strengthen their relationships with others struggling through entrepreneurship. Business ownership isn’t for everyone and the folx attending are a certain subset of our community. Of course we are also treating them to an afternoon and much needed break, but the conversations center mostly around navigating this journey and knowledge sharing with other women. We don’t want to exclude folx looking for connection, but at the same time we want to hold onto the integrity of what this is. It truly is a rare and important space. 1 ticket per customer. Ticket sales are nonrefundable and go toward ALIST, a Filipina-Woman Owned consultancy organizing the event. After the event, we'll share contact information with all who registered to make meeting up again even easier.
