Wrong Party are beyond thrilled to be inviting Athenian DJ & producer Anatolian Weapons to Glasgow this summer. As astonishing a DJ as he is a producer Anatolian Weapons is the brainchild of Aggelos Baltas and came out of a fusion of his love of psych (see his other project Fantastikoi-Hxoi which dives into Greek psychedelia and folk music) and his love of house, acid and techno (see his Dream Weapons project). Greater than the sum of its parts Anatolian Weapons saw a prolific burst in creativity in this new direction which resulted in a multitude of releases on respected labels such as Beats In Space, Lurid Music, Dekmantel, Byrd Out, Dark Entries, Kalahari Oyster Cult and local imprint Invisible Inc, to name just a handful. Whether it’s lysergic trance, downbeat darkwave or world beats-infused psychedelia there is something distinctly unique and transcendental about his sound. Primarily, however, he makes some seriously banging tunes that come out at such a rate that it’s hard to keep up with, yet despite this prolific knack for dancefloor friendly weapons he is probably as far removed from the ubiquitous bedroom techno producer as you can get: often collaborating in the studio with singers or musicians from the Greek psych / folk scene his productions are infused with a spiritual quality that give them a clear identity of their own. Check “Ofiodaimon” with singer and guitarist Seirios Savvaidis for his more psychedelic flavoured electronica and then “Reality Values II” or “Sacred Vision” for his more cosmic leaning turbo trance.
As a DJ he excels equally. His mixes are complex, fluid, epic, seamless, uplifting…with layers upon layers of pieces of music at times familiar at others completely obscure….and always a proper “journey”. He has DJd all over Europe appearing on the same bill as Manfredas, Lena Willikens, Daniele Baldelli, Alexis Le-Tan, Ramzi, Acid Arab and dozens of other Wrong Party favourites that you'll have heard at our nights. We know you won’t be disappointed!
And for this reason the party must surely go on a little later into the night than what we can manage in McNeill’s. So we’re super pleased to be putting this on in La Cheetah on Queen Street: a small capacity low-ceilinged basement club with one of the best sound systems in town – the perfect locale for Anatolian Weapons. This'll be happening from 11pm-3am and will be the first of several “away days” happening in venues/locations elsewhere in the city over the coming months (more on that soon). Wrong Party crew will open proceedings for Anatolian Weapons who will take over the second half of the night until close. It’s definitely gonna be one not to be missed!!
