In this fifty minute workshop bestselling author Marita Golden will introduce writers to techniques to overcome the all-too common fears that accompany the writing process. Attendees will learn how to manage fear and self-censorship and develop a productive writing practice that can be sustained. Marita Golden will discuss the basic elements of story and narrative and the stories that attendees want to write and why.
About the Author:
Marita Golden is an award-winning author of over twenty works of fiction and nonfiction. Her books include the novels The Wide Circumference of Love, and After and the memoirs
Migrations of the Heart, Saving Our Sons and Don’t Play in the Sun: One Woman’s Journey Through the Color Complex. Her most recent work of nonfiction is The New Black Woman: Loves Herself Has Boundaries Heals Every Day a sequel to her book The Strong Black Woman: How a Myth Endangers the Physical and Mental Health of Black Women. Her latest book is How to Become A Black Writer: Creating and Honoring Black Stories that Matter.
About the Program:
- Doors will open to registered attendees at 4:30pm.
- Paper and pens will be provided to attendees for brief writing prompts.
- Free parking vouchers are available to program attendees who park at the Franklin Street Garage (15 W. Franklin Street) after 4pm. Ask Pratt event staff for your parking voucher prior to or after the program.
