Come start to write your own rom-com!
About this Event

As a writer and connoisseur of ’90s rom-coms, Ashleigh has taught her popular class, How to Write Your Own Rom-Com Outline, for several years, both privately and through the Alexander Writing Centre.

She's the writer/director of NBC Universal Short Fest finalist Girl Brain, the HBO Women in Comedy Award-winning Parent Teacher Conference, and Coach Von Pidgeon, and I directed/co-wrote New Hair, which sold to Funny or Die. Her feature The Life of Fat Girls and pilot K*ll Me? were Austin Film Festival finalists, and she was recently selected as one of 20 writers worldwide for the Stowe Writing Retreat in Ireland.

These days, she writes comedic ’90s rom-com blurbs for @femaleapartmentsfrom90smovies and teaches people how to write their own rom-coms.

But mostly, she's still the 9-year-old girl who attempted liposuction on herself with a vacuum cleaner after watching Sally Jessy Raphael in the summer of ’91.

Workshop:

Come join her writing workshop, “The ABCs of How to Write Your Own Rom-Com!” Saturday, September 12th, 6–7:30pm!

We’ll break down my Rom-Com Cheat Sheet and cover the fundamentals of what makes a great rom-com script: What makes a great leading lady? A meet-cute? An inciting incident? A Nancy Meyers-esque apartment?!?

You’ll learn the rom-com basics, tackle a writing prompt, and leave with a clear idea of what you want your own rom-com to look like.
