About this Event
In the fractured world we find ourselves writing poems today, how might poetry offer a path toward healing? And how might that healing serve as a force for moving toward a world in which we prioritize community over xenophobia? In this generative workshop, we'll explore how poems that concern themselves with interdependence invite us to consider how to mend the wounds of our present. Because what is collective care if not proof that we have the capacity to love and tend rather than beat and bully? We'll look at the work of Danez Smith, Ellen Hagan, and Jericho Brown to understand the craft techniques that elevate poems of interdependence to powerful acts of resistance. Then, we'll explore how, in paying close attention to the moments of mutual care in our own lives, we too can write poems of that may serve as a force for learning to mend a fractured world.
