About this Event
Join us on Sunday, March 29th from 1-2pm as we host award-winning memoirist Deborah Kossmann, who will be offering a writing workshop entitled, "Losing, Finding, Keeping: Resilience in Memoir."
About the workshop:
Explore how you can write about the secrets, traumas and losses that are so often part of our stories. How do we find what raw material needs to remain private and what can be used effectively to deepen our narratives? When we keep our courage and resilience, we make our work compelling. Bring a pen and paper and we’ll do some brief writing exercises as we discuss grounding techniques, the psychology of creativity, and examples from Lost Found Kept: A Memoir, winner of the inaugural 2023 Aurora Polaris Prize in Creative Nonfiction (January 2025).
About the instructor:
Deborah Derrickson Kossmann's essays, feature articles and poetry have been published in The New York Times, Nashville Review, Psychotherapy Networker and Solstice Magazine to name a few. She was the winner of the Short Memoir Competition at the 2007 Philadelphia First Person Arts Festival and was awarded a Pennsylvania Council on the Arts Poetry Fellowship. When she's not working as a clinical psychologist in private practice outside Philadelphia, PA, she and her husband are devoted servants to Sofia Carmela, a cat with a whole lot of "tortitude."
