Write Poetry With Style 101: A Writing Workshop with R.J. Huneke

Learn to write new poems with style from published author and poet R.J. Huneke.

By exploring established and unexplored genres of poetry, we will learn to capture the creative muse and allow the inspired, and oft improvised, words to stream from your pen to the page. You will be empowered to write using simple, yet comprehensive techniques to analyze, be inspired by, and be prompted by lines of poetry.

The goal is to open up whole new worlds for writers and poets of all skillsets. Attendees will create their own style of poetry, whether that is a take on an existing format or something wholly new.

Together, we will choose from a broad range of poems to help establish jumping off points for your writing, from classics like Haiku, ee cummings, Shakespearian Sonnets, and/or Walt Whitman, to the Beats’ Allen Ginsberg, and modern master Maya Angelou. We will discuss these works, and we will write and review our use of style!

R.J. Huneke is a published author of poetry, short stories, comic books, non-fiction, and novels, including his SciFi-Thriller CYBERWAR. He earned his Honors degree in Literature and Writing from Stony Brook University, and he splits time between New York and Porto.
