Even though this is a writing workshop it is not aimed at current or aspiring writers. No writing experience is required. This is an opportunity for our community to engage in the local history of slavery in an informative, creative and hopefully transformative way. Instead of using facts and thinking only, Kate Hymes will engage our ability to imagine and put ourselves in an enslaved person’s shoes. We will use as reference points, runaway notices that have been documented in the book In Defiance: Runaways from Slavery in New York’s Hudson River Valley 1735-1831 co-authored by Susan Stessin-Cohn and Ashley Biagini.
Participate with us in Writing into the Gaps: Stories of the Self-Emancipated workshop. We will dearly welcome your presence, open mind and heart, curiosity and insights!
We are asking for a contribution of $29 - $50. No one will be turned away, so please contribute with as much as you can.
