A humour writing masterclass With Kate Doyle & Ryan MillerWhether you want to write for the page or the stage—whether you want to write something quietly witty or outrageously funny—this masterclass is for writers of all forms and genres who want to bring a sense of humour and a playful spirit to their work.
Writer-turned-comedian Kate Doyle and comedian-turned-writer Ryan Millar will lead hands-on writing exercises and offer practical tips and imaginative possibilities for giving your audience something to laugh about.
You'll write many exercises in this class and have opportunities to share what you create. We'll laugh a lot, experiment, and find out where a sense of humour can bring us.

Kate Doyle is the author of the short story collection I Meant It Once , Longlisted for the Story Prize and a finalist for the PEN/Robert W. Bingham Award, I Meant It Once was hailed as "unmistakably individual and exciting" in the Irish Times. Bookseller Roxanne Coady said on her podcast Just the Right Book, "[Doyle's] wit and humor is stunning... you can't have more fun than read this book."
Ryan Millar is a Canadian writer, performer and communications trainer. As an author, his works include The Confident Presenter (2023), TAKE IT EASY (2018) and the children's book Tabitha & The Jets (2025). Comedy highlights from his career include performing with Amsterdam comedy institution Boom Chicago, bringing his solo storytelling show Roman Around to the Edinburgh Fringe, and competing in the 2024 European Masters of Improvisation.
