One of the hardest and most fraught things about writing family--even in fiction--is the balance between honesty and the impulse to protect our families. In this one-day workshop we'll do a mix of writing from prompts, studying work about family from poets, novelists, essayists and memoirists, and give feedback on the in-class writing we do. We'll read writers like David Sedaris, Samantha Irby, Lilly Dancyger, William Matthews, Sharon Olds, Alexander Chee, Maggie O'Farrell and Kevin Wilson.
