About this Event

In this course, writers will have an opportunity to learn some technical and creative elements of craft, as well as functional writing skills that can support their efforts to publish work on a self, indie, or traditional professional level. We’d like to tailor this course as much as possible to the desires of the participants. Please choose one craft topic and one technical topic and one industry topic you’d like to focus on during the section. There will also be time throughout for questions. Craft Topics:

  • Characterization
  • Setting and place
  • Outlining
  • Revising
  • Pacing

Technical Topics

  • Writing a Query
  • Writing a Synopsis or Summary
  • Creating pitches for online Pitch-Events

Industry Topics

  • How to find an agent
  • How to self-publish
  • Literary magazines
  • Finding feedback readers for your work
  • The traditional publishing process
  • Money and publishing

Hugh believes in the communal form of teaching and learning, so please come with your knowledge! There will be chances to share, listen, practice, collaborate with peers, and ask questions. Writing is for everyone, and is uniquely personal to everyone. We’re excited to build with you.
