Join us for a monthly meeting geared toward sharing information about what’s happening at Art Center Morro Bay and enjoy a free, fun filled, interactive art demonstration by award winning artist and poet, George Wm. Asdel.
The class will listen to and write Haiku. Learn shortcuts for drawing animals, flowers, plants, and people.
Search old nature magazines and study art on display in MB gallery for
inspiration to write Haiku and make greeting cards.
Haiku can be used for:
Daily diaries, Journaling, Meditation,
Doodling, Professional art,
Brain exercises, Greeting cards,
Love letters, Games with friends
Bring your sketchbook, soft drawing, and colored pencils, and pen, for this interactive demonstration. If you do not have art supplies, paper and pencils will be supplied.
George will be basing Haiku poetry on the drawings made during this event, artwork on exhibit or other images! This is referred to as ekphrastic or poetry based on another art form.

About the artist: George Asdel was born in Santa Ana, CA. He was raised in Monterey Park and attended Mark Keppel High School, East Los Angeles College, California State Universities at Los Angeles and Fullerton majoring in education and art. George was a story teller on Catalina Island, taught elementary school in L.A., on a U.S. Navy base in Newfoundland, Canada, and in a Spencer Valley one room schoolhouse near Julian, CA. George and his wife Kathie taught art in the Hibbs’ Cove Art Center, located in a Newfoundland fishing village. Together, they opened an art gallery and studio in Brigus, Newfoundland. Upon returning to California, they opened galleries and studios in Pismo and Shell Beach. After relocating to Atascadero, Kathie continues to work as a Marriage, Family and Art Therapist. George taught art for another fourteen years to adults and children at the Charles Paddock Zoo.
George illustrates books, creates greeting cards and has 39 volumes of bound drawing books that he continues to work on daily. George has had the honor of having two books published, is a puppeteer, puppet script writer, facilitator of the Atascadero Writers Group, current President of the Atascadero Art Association and exhibits his artwork at Gallery at Marina Square.
Join us for an enjoyable, interactive art demonstration, that is free and open to the public!
