About this Event
The 2nd annual Heartland Book Festival will take place on October 12 at the Central Library in downtown Kansas City with authors, books, activities, and more! Join us for a spooky fiction writing workshop located in the Turner Board Room.
Creepy tales told around a campfire. A book finished by flashlight under the covers. Nothing is as delicious as the thrill of a good ghost story. How do authors create such scary-sweet treats? Using examples from Edgar Allan Poe to the present, we’ll get under the hood of horror and create our own spooky fiction.
This workshop is taught by a student in the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s MFA Program in Creative Writing and is intended for ages 16 and up.
The Heartland Book Festival is co-presented by the Kansas City Public Library, Missouri Humanities, and the Missouri Center for the Book.
This workshop is presented through the Writers for Readers partnership between the Library and the University of Missouri-Kansas City.
